This can be seen in places like Reddit, where users share their experiences with AI romantic partners, often positively but also describing their inability to function without them. There’s a lot of debate round whether we’re lonelier than ever but loneliness is certainly a problem that these chatbots are attempting to cater to. A quick scroll through r/lonely shows just how bad the problem is for many of these people, and how they have often have nobody in the real world for emotional support. But are AI chatbots really the solution to this? Or do relationships with them inevitably have a problematic dynamic?
